We believe Hamilton Upgrade Kits are more reliable than most factory CarPlay systems. This is a bold claim, but even the newest systems from car manufacturers encounter glitches with CarPlay. We are here to help.
Hamilton systems are designed to be reliable and function as close to OEM equipment as possible. When things go wrong with wireless CarPlay, follow these steps to reset and resolve your issues. If you still have issues after following this guide, contact Hamilton customer service at (919) 858-2890 or support@hamiltonmotorcompany.com.
This is the most important note of the document: Above all the critical step is to completely watch our Audio and CarPlay setup guides for your product located here.
Our devices expect you to delete your factory Bluetooth pairing records and only use the Hamilton network with your factory radio set to AUX mode. We show how to do this for every type of car. We are adding brand-new CarPlay technology to car radios using technology from 2007. It is critically important to familiarize yourself with all of our setup steps, as this is not as intuitive as a brand-new iPhone.
If any of your glitches are audio related, you need to review the Audio and Setup guides. These steps are for CarPlay that will not pair or stay paired consistently.
Once one of these steps solves your issue, you can stop without needing to proceed to the next step.
STEP ONE - Delete and Re-Connect
If your wireless CarPlay will not pair or is causing glitches, first follow these steps.
Priority 1) Erase all devices from the Hamilton Upgrade Kit & Erase Hamilton Pairing Record from your iPhone
-
In CarPlay, tap the "Hamilton" icon to exit to the Hamilton underlying home screen > Tap "Bluetooth" on the Hamilton home screen > Tap the delete button.
On your iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth > Locate your "Hamilton-1234" device > Tap the blue (i) > Tap "Forget Device".
Now back to our Audio and CarPlay Setup Guides and re-pair your iPhone to make a fresh wireless CarPlay connection.
STEP TWO - Delete and Re-Connect (Again) & Reset Network Settings
If your phone will still not pair or is causing glitches, follow these steps:
Follow STEP ONE to clear all Bluetooth devices again off the Hamilton device.
Instead of simply deleting the device on your iPhone, reset your iPhone network settings. A video below shows how:
On your iPhone: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings > Enter your password.
STEP THREE - Changing the WiFi Channel Used by Wireless CarPlay
If CarPlay is still glitching, change the WiFi channel. CarPlay uses Bluetooth to initiate a connection then switches to WiFi automatically. Make sure WiFi is enabled on your phone and it is not connected to another network.
From the Hamilton OS (press "Hamilton" in CarPlay), go to Settings > System > WiFi > Channel > Change to the next available channel. Hamilton Motor Company recommends channel 48 for maximum stability in USA.
Reboot your device by turning the car off for at least 5 minutes, then turn it back on before pairing.
STEP FOUR - Check the Placement of Your WiFi Antenna
The black antenna with white adapter is your WiFi/Bluetooth antenna. Placing it on metal surfaces can cause interference.
Ensure your WiFi antenna is connected and not attached to the Hamilton metal box or any metal surface.
