Overview
If you are replacing the factory backup camera on a vehicle using a Hamilton Conversion Kit for Toyota or Subaru, your system supports several common aftermarket camera video formats.
However, it is still important to verify the camera's video format and resolution before purchasing.
Supported Camera Formats
Hamilton Single System Conversion Kits support:

A camera must use one of the supported formats above to be compatible.
What to Look for on a Camera Listing
Aftermarket camera listings can use a variety of terminology. When shopping, look for the video format and resolution in the product specifications.
1. Video Format
Look for terms such as:
- CVBS
- NTSC
- PAL
- AHD
- TVI
2. Resolution
Single System Conversion Kits support:
- AHD 720p
- AHD 1080p
- TVI 720p
- TVI 1080p
CVBS cameras are also supported in their standard-definition formats.
3. CVBS/AHD Switching
Some aftermarket cameras support multiple video formats and allow you to switch between them using a wire loop, button, or other configuration method.
For example, a camera may be shipped in AHD mode but allow you to switch it to CVBS by cutting or connecting a specific wire.
These cameras can provide additional flexibility, but the switching method varies between manufacturers.
Always follow the camera manufacturer's instructions when changing its video format.
Compatibility vs Connector
Many aftermarket backup cameras use an RCA connector. While this is a common video connector, the RCA connector itself does not determine compatibility.
For example, two cameras may both use an RCA connector while one outputs CVBS and the other outputs AHD.
Always check the camera's video signal specification, not just the connector type.
Aftermarket 360° Camera Systems
Aftermarket 360° camera systems are not compatible with Hamilton Conversion Kits.
Hamilton systems are designed to work with a single backup/rear-view camera input. Aftermarket 360° camera systems typically use their own processing hardware and multiple camera inputs to create a 360° view.
Because of this, do not purchase an aftermarket 360° camera system with the expectation that it will integrate with the Hamilton system.
Installation & Support
Aftermarket cameras can have different wiring configurations, video formats, switching methods, and features depending on the manufacturer.
If you need assistance installing an aftermarket camera, our Support Team will need a wiring diagram or schematic for the specific camera being installed.

This allows our Support Team to identify the camera's power, ground, video signal, and configuration wires and provide more accurate guidance.
Important Support Information
Hamilton can provide support for connecting a compatible aftermarket camera to the Hamilton system. However, aftermarket camera installations can be more advanced than a standard factory-camera replacement, and support for specific aftermarket camera models, features, wiring configurations, and manufacturer-specific settings may be limited.
We will do our best to help troubleshoot the Hamilton side of the installation. For questions regarding the camera's specific operation, configuration, features, or wiring, you may need to contact the camera manufacturer directly for additional support.
