Overview
If you are replacing the factory backup camera on a vehicle using a Hamilton Lexus Conversion Kit, it is important to make sure the aftermarket camera uses the correct video format.
Lexus Conversion Kit Camera Compatibility
Lexus Conversion Kits support NTSC CVBS video format only.
When shopping for an aftermarket backup camera, look for a listing that specifically states:
- NTSC
- CVBS
- Composite Video
- Standard Definition / 480p
Cameras That Are NOT Compatible
Lexus Conversion Kits do not support AHD or TVI video signals.
Do not purchase a camera that is listed as:
- AHD 720p
- AHD 1080p
- TVI 720p
- TVI 1080p
- AHD/TVI only
A camera being advertised as having an RCA connector does not mean it is compatible. RCA describes the physical connector, while CVBS, AHD, and TVI describe the video signal being sent through that connector.
What to Look for on a Camera Listing
When shopping for a compatible camera, pay close attention to the Video Format and Signal Type listed in the product description.
A camera that specifically states it supports CVBS and NTSC is what you want for a Lexus Conversion Kit.
Cameras With CVBS/AHD Switching
Some cameras support multiple video formats and allow you to switch between them using a wire loop, button, or other configuration method.
These cameras may be compatible if they can be configured to output NTSC CVBS.
For example, a listing may state that cutting or connecting a particular wire changes the camera between AHD and CVBS.
Do not assume the same wire or switching method applies to every camera. Always follow the camera manufacturer's instructions.
Aftermarket 360° Camera Systems
Aftermarket 360° camera systems are not compatible with Hamilton Conversion Kits.
Hamilton systems are designed to work with a single backup/rear-view camera input. Aftermarket 360° camera systems typically use their own processing hardware and multiple camera inputs to create a 360° view.
Because of this, do not purchase an aftermarket 360° camera system with the expectation that it will integrate with the Hamilton system.
Installation & Support
Aftermarket cameras can have different wiring configurations, video formats, switching methods, and features depending on the manufacturer.
If you need assistance installing an aftermarket camera, our Support Team will need a wiring diagram or schematic for the specific camera being installed.
Please provide:
- The camera's wiring diagram or schematic
- The camera's installation instructions, if available
- The product listing, if available
This allows our Support Team to identify the camera's power, ground, video signal, and configuration wires and provide more accurate guidance.
Important Support Information
Hamilton can provide support for connecting a compatible aftermarket camera to the Hamilton system. However, aftermarket camera installations can be more advanced than a standard factory-camera replacement, and support for specific aftermarket camera models, features, wiring configurations, and manufacturer-specific settings may be limited.
